More and more eco-conscious couples are choosing to plan a "green" or eco-friendly wedding reception. Find out how to apply this in the food and drink areas.

More and more eco-conscious brides and grooms are choosing to plan a "green" or eco-friendly wedding ceremony and reception. With a little research, engaged couples find that there are vendors that are offering eco-friendly products and services to help them meet their goal.

Eat and Be Merry

Providing organic food at your wedding reception is the first step in having an eco-friendly wedding reception. If you are having your reception at a venue that allows you to choose your own caterer, then this leaves it open for you to meet with and choose a caterer that offers an organic menu. If your venue does not allow you to choose your own caterer, you need to find out if organic food options are available from its menu. If your venue does not offer organic options, then you may need to find another venue, depending what type of obligation you currently have to the venue.

Many hotels are choosing to become green hotels, so look in your area for hotels that fall into this category. Along with using cleaning products that are friendly to the environment, the menus at these hotel restaurants and through the catering services offer organic food options. Many restaurants base menus and recipes on organic ingredients, so these are also viable venue options for a green wedding reception.

For example, the Si Como No Resort in Costa Rica is a green hotel located in the heart of the rain forest. Everything the resort does is friendly to the environment and hosts wedding ceremonies and receptions in various areas of the resort. Several restaurants in the Boston area, like Oleana, offer an organic menu and host wedding parties. Recently, in St. John's County, in historic St. Augustine, Florida, many of the hotels have gone green, offering all sorts of "green" product and service offerings. Do a little research where you are interested in having your wedding and find out which options are available to you.

Drink and Be Merry

Just like organic foods, believe it or not, there are organic wines, champagnes and even hard liquor! K&L Wine Merchant out of Redwood City, California is just one of the companies that has responded to the call of consumers for organic products. Don't have a local vendor that offers organic options? That's okay because many of these companies offer online ordering and shipping (sometimes free or at a reduced rate for a minimum order amount).

So if you are worried about the carbon footprint that your wedding is going to make on the environment, then considering going green! Find eco-friendly ways to cater your wedding reception by finding products and vendors offering organic options.
