You're getting married. You enjoy volunteering or providing financial support for local charities. Here's how to successfully help the two become one.
Let’s face it, weddings are expensive events. By the time the couple reserves a hall, photographer, flowers and wedding day attire, the bill can top $15,000 with hardly any effort. If you, like many couples today, find spending that kind of money for one day wasteful, you could exchange vows in the courthouse. Or you could celebrate with all the fixings and donate to the charity of your choice at the same time. I Do FoundationThe I Do Foundation can help you have the wedding you want while supporting the charities that are important to you. If you don’t have a favorite charity, search their database. I Do Foundation’s charities are divided into six categories: Children, Youth, Families; Community Development; Education; Environment; Health; and Social Justice. Some of the charities include Habitat for Humanity International, Trees for Life and Doctors without Borders. Once you’ve decided on a charity, there are several ways for you to offer your support. Donate Your Wedding DressIf you don’t want to keep your gown for sentimental reasons, consider sharing it. Send your dress to the I Do Foundation and they will sell it through one of their partner companies. Twenty percent of the sale goes to the charity and the remaining funds help I Do Foundation continue promoting charitable wedding giving. Time for the HoneymoonBook a Sandals or Beaches getaway through I Do Foundation and up to 5% of the cost is donated to your charity. Make Favors Mean MoreWedding favors are an important way to thank guests for being there to share your special day. You can make them an opportunity to give back by making donations to your charity in the name of each guest. The I Do Foundation provides favor place cards to announce your gift. Candy covered almonds are nice, but donating the cost of them to a charity is socially conscious. Donation with PurchaseBefore you run through a store with the hand-held registry scanner, consider creating your gift registry through I Do Foundation as well. Up to 10% of sales will be donated to your charity. Participating stores include Target, JCPenny, and Amazon.com. Something Old, Something NewWeddingchannel.com, one of the largest online wedding websites will donate up to 3% of sales to your charity when you purchase items for your wedding. Carlson Craft will donate up to 10% of invitation and accessory purchases. Go through I Do Foundation to be sure donations are properly recorded. Share Your JoyYou can even create your own personal wedding website through I Do Foundation to help guests keep track of everything going on as you progress from engagement to wedding day. For a truly personal touch to your wedding celebration, trying one or all of the above ideas can provide much needed support to your community while you enjoy the wedding of your dreams. It’s the right thing to do.
