sphagnum moss
fern pins
scissors
thread
ivy, creeping fig, or other appropriate plant

Easy to follow, step by step instructions for creating tabletop topiaries can be found online, in books, and at many garden retailers. Once created, the care of the topiary is as simple as mastering the watering. If the moss is dry, water is needed. If it’s damp, water is not needed. Under-watering will inhibit growth, and over-watering will rot the roots and destroy the topiary. Understanding simple watering basics will produce full, rich topiaries that will enhance any wedding reception.

Adding ribbons and bows, lights, crystals, flower buds, and other decorative attachments to topiaries is easy, and such adornments can effectively cover any bald spots or thin areas so that plant imperfections are never noticed. Adding adornments to the topiary, as well as fabric or foils to the pot, is also a perfect way to compliment the wedding’s color scheme.
