Some couples know immediately that they want to get married at home or in a beloved restaurant, but for others it may not be so obvious.

This article will help a couple choose the location of their ceremony and reception. There are many options for the location of a wedding such as a hotel, restaurant, outdoors, or at home.

Hotel

The biggest plus of having a wedding in a hotel is that the hotel is already prepared to host events. They usually provide everything from the staff to the table linens to the champagne glasses. If the couple runs out of wine, a hotel probably has some extra in stock they can use. If a table cloth is damaged, they can easily replace it. Many couples that get married in hotels have the option of changing the menu or adding something personal such as grandma’s famous roast beef recipe. Also, wedding guests will usually get discounts on their rooms at the hotel and they don’t have to travel to another venue for the event.

Some hotels do not allow couples to bring in outside vendors or only allow “approved” outside vendors, so couples should be sure to ask about this policy before signing a contract.

Restaurant

This location works best with small weddings and can be a great way to incorporate a couple’s favorite cuisine. Some restaurants have outdoor areas such as gardens or patios where the ceremony can be held, but often the couple gets married at another location and holds the reception at the restaurant.

One of the negatives of a restaurant location is that guests may have to be put in different areas or in different rooms depending on the size of the guest list and size of the restaurant. Also, there may not be room to have a dance floor, so if the couple loves to boogie, this might not be the best option.

Outside Wedding

If a couple loves the outdoors, they may want to get married in a garden or on the beach. Having the waves crashing in the background of a ceremony can be incredibly romantic and the couple does not have to bring in much décor due to the beautiful surroundings of nature. However, the couple should consider that everything else will have to be brought to the location. Many items such as a tent and chairs may have to be rented which could make a wedding budget sky rocket. Also, any couple getting married outside should have a rain plan just in case of inclement weather.

Wedding at Home

If a couple has a home that is large enough to have a ceremony and reception, they may want the intimacy that this location would provide. However, many items would probably have to be rented just like an outdoor wedding. It is a myth that having a wedding at home saves a lot of money. The couple doesn’t have to rent a venue, but they will have to rent chairs, tables, glasses, silverware, and much more. One advantage of having a wedding at home is the couple can buy their alcohol from a liquor store which could drastically cut costs while upgrading the quality.

There are pros and cons to each wedding location a couple considers, but they should keep in mind their budget and taste when choosing a location for their ceremony and reception.
