Simple, Beautiful, Practical Gifts for Your Special Guests

Bookmarks are a thoughtful wedding favor that can be customized to match your style.

Whether you purchase bookmarks or make your own, guests can use this wedding favor for years to come... and remember your special day every time they mark their place in a book.

Buying Bookmarks

You can buy wedding favor bookmarks from a number of online sites. Some are made to match a wedding theme (such as seashells, hearts, calla lilies, snowflakes, or butterflies). Other bookmarks can be personalized with your name, the wedding date, or even a treasured scripture verse or favorite poem.

There are several types of bookmarks available:

  • Paper: Made from thick paper or cardstock, these classic bookmarks are easy to find, easy to place in a book, and often the most customizable.
  • Clips: These bookmarks work pretty much like large, ornamented paper clips. They can be a little more difficult to use, but they come in a variety of designs, and sometimes even come in individual ribbon-tied gift boxes perfect for giving.
  • Metal or leather: These fancier bookmarks can be long lasting and elegant, at a premium price.
  • Ribbon: Whether you choose a simple ribbon, or a ribbon with charms attached, these bookmarks can be stylish favors.

Of course, your wedding bookmarks don’t have to be customized, or specifically marketed as wedding favors, at all. Any bookmark that suits your style (and is available to buy in bulk) will do.

The type of bookmark favor you choose depends on your personal style, and on your budget. While you can buy pretty paper bookmarks for as low as a few dollars for a multi-pack, clip bookmarks can run from 89 cents to $2 each, and fancy bookmarks can easily cost $8 for each favor.

If you’d like to try to save money, or create something that reflects your unique style, you might want to consider making your own wedding favor bookmarks.

Making Your Own

If you have access to a printer (especially a color one), you may want to print your own bookmarks on colored paper or cardstock. This gives you the advantage of being able to customize your wedding favors with whatever paper, colors, text, and graphics you wish. A photo of the two of you, a favorite place, or a beautiful image to match your wedding theme may be the perfect touch.

Many copy and print shops have paper cutters you can use to slice the printouts into strips, or you can buy cutting tools at craft and scrapbook supply stores. You’ll find both plain, straight-edge devices and inexpensive scissors that can cut all kinds of scalloped and designer edges.

If you’re truly crafty, consider using paper punches, stickers, or other embellishments to further customize your wedding favors. (But be sure to be realistic about how much time you have to make each one!)

You can also make easy and inexpensive bookmark favors from ribbon. Tie a charm, or a few special beads, to the center of a beautiful piece of ribbon, and you’re done.
