A yoga themed shower is affordable and easy to pull off, whether the shower is quiet and intimate with only a few guests, or a large event with many friends and family.

A modern bride will delight in a unique bridal shower reflective of her own individual personality and taste. For the fit and active fitness enthusiast, a yoga themed bridal shower is an easy way to get guests involved and crate a fun and memorable event.

Location- Choose a Space that Works and Decorate

A yoga bridal shower can work in any space. Depending on the size of the guest list, ideal locations can include a basement or living room, hotel board or conference room, apartment party room, performance theatres, or a dance or fitness studio. Many spaces are available weekends, particularly Sunday afternoons when bridal showers are traditionally held and can be booked for little to no cost.

When arranging and booking spaces, be sure to inquire as to whether outside food and drink are allowed, alcoholic beverages can be served, and if clean-up will be provided.

To evoke a peaceful and relaxing spa setting ideal for yoga work-outs, minimal accessories and decorations can transform any space. Real or fake bamboo plants in simple glass or plastic vases suggest peaceful Zen gardens, as do smooth garden stones which can be strewn about food and gift tables, as well as a guestbook signing area. Scented tea candles are also an easy decorating idea, adding to the relaxing atmosphere.

Relaxed and Casual Dress Code

A yoga theme would not be complete without yoga attire. When the bridal shower invitations are sent to guests, be sure to include a line about dress code. Appropriate yoga attire can be anything from sweat pants, shorts, tank tops, sundresses, t-shirts, and capri pants. Stress on the invitation that guests should wear whatever they are comfortable moving in. Be sure to include that there will be an easy-to-follow yoga work-out, and that participation is optional.

Hire a Professional Instructor

One of the most unique experiences at a yoga themed shower is yoga instruction. Many yoga instructors can be hired for a class, based on their time and availability. Prices are often reasonable and negotiable, especially if the instructor is familiar with the bride.

If the bride is a fitness enthusiast, she may already know several yoga instructors that can be approached about leading a yoga workout for the bridal shower. Inquire at gyms, fitness studios, and dance studios as to whether a yoga instructor would be available for private events.

A yoga instructor may charge based on his or her time, or the size of the class. Another option is to offer a charitable donation on behalf of the instructor to an organization that he or she supports.

In order to accommodate the varying levels of fitness, ages, and experience of shower guests, discuss proposed workouts with the yoga instructor in advance. Set a time limit for the lesson for a work-out that is fun and easy, with relatively simple poses for all to enjoy.

Be sure to have alternate activities planned in case one or more shower guests are not comfortable with working out. Alternate activities can include more traditional shower games such as wedding-related crosswords, word searches, or trivia.

Provide Healthy Spa Snacks

Heavy meals will not sit well with guests before a work-out. Instead, provide cold finger foods and snacks for guests to munch on before and after their work-out. Healthy and simple snack ideas can include fresh fruit and vegetables with dip, cold cuts and cheese, hummus and other spreads with pita bread, crackers, and whole grain breads. For desserts, try serving organic cookies or baked good with natural ingredients. No spa experience is complete without flavoured water. Try creating your own with cucumber slices, lemons and limes, or berries.

Prizes and Favours for Shower Guests

While the shower gifts for the bride do not necessarily have to reflect the yoga and fitness themes, the favours given to shower guests can. A simple favour to hand out to guests upon arrival for use at the shower are plastic Chinese slippers, easily found in discount and dollar stores for under $2 a pair. Purchase a variety of sizes and have guests exchange their shoes on arrival for these comfortable slippers, which will double as a take home gift. The slippers are also comfortable enough for the yoga work-out, or can be easily slipped off to perform movements.

Traditional shower games can be played throughout the course of the shower or while the bride is opening gifts. The prizes for such games can reflect the overall theme of the shower. Yoga mats, aluminum water bottles, yoga books, tickets to a baseball game, or simple work-out equipment make appropriate gifts. If the shower is held at a fitness studio, gym, or dance studio, consider purchasing a membership, trial dance class, or week long pass for the facilities.
