Summer weddings explode with the beauty of the natural world. Marriages in the months of July and August can find creative inspiration in these summer wedding themes.

Summer weddings offer a wide range of options for flowers and outdoor locations – more than any other time of year. With a little creativity, you can easily make use of the balmy weather and lush summer growth to turn your June, July or August wedding into a fantastic celebration with one of these summer wedding themes.

Classic Floral Weddings

The classic floral wedding takes advantage of the natural abundance of summer flowers and plant growth. Flowers are a beautiful emblem of love and romance. Most weddings use flowers as centerpieces and in the bride's attire – at the very least, for the wedding bouquet – but it's possible to go beyond the ordinary floral designs on your wedding invitations to create something unique and beautiful.

  • Weave flowers into the bride's hair
  • Use floral designs on her gown and train, and a flower pattern or embellishment on the bridesmaids' dresses
  • An outdoor wedding situated in a city garden (many of which are known as "wedding gardens") makes for beautiful summer flair
  • Serve edible flowers like pansies or dandelion atop salads, soups or main courses

Tropical Wedding Themes

The tropical wedding theme is a close second in popularity after the classic floral wedding. Like a flower-bedecked wedding, this theme can be carried off inside or out of doors – the trick is in the décor and what the bridal party and guests are wearing. Make the theme prominent on your wedding invitations, and ask your guests to dress in their "tropical" or "beach" best!

  • Gowns and dresses can be off-the-shoulder or strapless
  • Flowers abound in the summer, and wreaths and lei can be handed out freely
  • Food can be casual or elegant, but should have a barbeque or beach cook-out theme
  • Tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, coconut, orange and banana can flavor the drinks, appetizers, and even main courses – think mango chutney over fish or orange-glazed chicken
  • If possible in your area, a beach location makes this wedding even more genuine and memorable

Harvest or Garden Themed Weddings

A harvest wedding can be pulled off successfully in either summer or autumn, but summer gives the advantage of warmer temperatures and clear weather. A summer harvest wedding can bring in rich, vibrant colors and aromas that are less often seen at a traditional, white and floral wedding. Your wedding invitations can reflect the bounty of harvest color and goodness that the wedding will use as its theme.

  • Cover tables with a "centerpiece" of flowers, whole fruits and vegetables in their multicolored glory
  • Say your vows under ripe apple trees or in your own garden
  • The bride and groom's attire – and especially that of the bridesmaids and groomsmen – may reflect the theme with hints of deep colors like auburn, gold and red
  • Read poetry or excerpts that connect the abundance of the earth with love, trust and faithfulness
  • A meal that showcases local foods and crops is a highlight of a summer harvest wedding

Any of these themes makes a great starting point for a fun, fabulous summer marriage and a memorable testament to your love.

We're hosting my daughter's wedding this summer and we got floral wedding decorations at Stumps Prom. It seems like an odd choice, but the decorations were beautiful and affordable!
