Planning the most important day of your life can take its toll on a girl's sanity, but it doesn't have to be that way!

Here are a few ways to achieve serenity while planning your wedding day.

  1. Breathe: you will hear this one a lot, and granted, it will get on your nerves – but focusing on your breathing can help tremendously, when it comes to stress control. Many libraries and community centres offer cheap or even free guided meditation classes that can help you achieve inner peace – with or without the spiritual component.
  2. Exercise: join a gym, and start an exercise regimen. Taking out your frustrations on the treadmill will do wonders for you! Regular exercise is a win-win situation: you will get in shape and benefit from all the wonderful endorphins released in your system when you hit your zone. If weight loss is your goal, try Spinning – it's a surefire way to rev up your cardio routine and get rid of unwanted pounds!
  3. Yoga: not only will yoga help you relax both physically and mentally, it will also tone your derriere and make you feel taller, stronger, and leaner. Check your local listings for places that offer Bikram, or "Hot Yoga." Performed in a room heated to a temperature of about 105F, Bikram is an effective way to detox and get limber.
  4. Baths: a candlelit bath is a time-honoured tradition, when it comes to relaxation. Put everything aside at least once a week and take a few minutes to focus on you. Pamper yourself with luxury bath products that you would normally save for "that special occasion." Your wedding is as special as it's going to get!
  5. Massages: aromatherapy and hot stone massages are excellent ways to distress, and rub away all your worries. Not in your budget? No problem! Spending quality time with your significant other and giving each other full body massages is a great way to keep the sparks flying – in a good way – as your approach your big day.
  6. Dating: take some time every week to have a date night with your groom-to-be, where you will talk about everything except the wedding! Be sure to remember why you're getting married. It's easy to let all the wedding planning details take over, and lose track of what brought the two of you together in the first place.
  7. Retail Therapy: you're planning a wedding, so you have the perfect excuse to shop! Grab a friend or a relative, and head for the malls! Do yourself a favour and again, focus on everything except for the big day itself. There are tons of things you will need for your honeymoon, your new house, and your new life as a wife. Just don't overspend, or you're likely to regret it later.
  8. Professional Help: if it all gets to be too much, don't hesitate to see a professional – whether this means a therapist, or a wedding planner. Weddings can sometimes bring old hurt and resentment to the surface, and with a millions things – and people! – requiring your attention pretty much around the clock, it's hard not to feel overwhelmed.

Remember that as a bride, you are an essential part of the wedding. Do what it takes to get there in one piece!
