Not everything new or in fashion will suit an engaged couple's choice of theme. They could consider something more classic.

The past can provide an engaged couple a wealth of ideas for their wedding. Each decade has its own charm and unique music, fashion and art. A couple’s choice, of course, should always reflect their personality and their style. Below are some considerations that could help the couple decide if a vintage wedding theme is for them.

Inspiration From The Past

It would be pointless if a couple doesn’t have a starting point for choosing a theme from the past. However, it’s easy to begin: they only need to look to their parents or grandparents. It could be a wedding gown, a favorite love song or a classic venue. This exercise actually helps the couple connect with their family in a different way. Parents and grandparents can recount their love story and the special details behind it.

A Particular Era To Explore

The couple just needs to decide on a particular era. There’s a whole range to choose from. It’s best if the couple chooses just one era or decade so they can focus. Is there a type of clothing design, a genre of music (like jazz or rock) or even a type of cuisine popular during that era that inspires the couple? Below are some resources that could help out a couple:

Existing Vintage Resources

A vintage wedding doesn’t have to be expensive. The couple doesn’t have to spend a lot to recreate an era. Does the bride’s mother have an existing wedding gown that can be adjusted? Is there a wedding venue that’s close by? Does the couple have a friend who is a vintage car enthusiast? Do they have an uncle with an extensive CD collection? The couple will be surprised by the number of people they know who can help them with their vintage wedding.

A couple planning their wedding doesn’t have to go with the latest fashion or whatever is “in.” They can actually tap their parents or grandparents as wedding consultants and make their wedding more special. They just need to find inspiration from the past, choose one era that they can focus on and then look for existing resources that they can use so they don’t have to spend too much.
