When planning a destination weddng there are a few things to remember to keep your stress down and your planning running smoothly.

Destination weddings are quickly becoming popular as brides and grooms look to get away from it all with friends and family to celebrate their special day. Planning the perfect destination nuptials can be stressful. There are, however, six keys to a successful destination wedding.

  1. Choosing a location - Keep in mind a destination wedding will most likely reduce the number of guests that attend the wedding. A smaller wedding can also mean a less costly wedding but there is a chance key family and friends may not be able to attend. In addition some destinations may require legal documents such as passports that guests may have to apply for.
  2. Choosing a date - If the event is planned during typically 'tourist' seasons expect you and your guests to pay more, a more budget concious wedding may be better held in the off season. It is also wise to run dates by important people to make sure they are available. Lastly, send out save the dates as soon as your date and location are booked so guests can start planning and saving, with invitations should go out 8-10 weeks prior to the event.
  3. Work with a local professional - this will be a huge time and stress reliever! Let an expert handle the details. If the venue does not have an event planner find a local wedding planner. They know where to go and what to do when it comes to flowers, food, and other wedding necessities.
  4. Consider packages - using a travel agent to assist in getting group airfare, and packages for you and your guests will be a big money saver for everyone. Many popular wedding destinations offer wedding packages to assist in limiting costs.
  5. Consider "all inclusive" destinations and locations - Beaches Resorts, among others, as well as cruise ships offer guests one price for just about everything they will need to eat, see, and do while attending your wedding.
  6. Marriage requirements - It is also wise to find out what the local marriage requirements are ahead of time and what documents may be requested of you so that your destination nuptuals are legal.

When considering a destination wedding it is important to remember that your guests will be going out of their way to attend your nuptuals. While paying for airfare and accommodations for guests isn't expected, finding less expensive options to help your them budget for the wedding week or weekend is the curteous thing to do.

While a destination wedding can be a unique and fun experience, planning an unforgetable wedding getaway can be overwhelming. Being organized, planning ahead, and hiring a local wedding coordinator are important pieces to help make the event as stress free as possible.
