Writing a wedding blog is the perfect way to capture engagement memories and to share them with family and friends.
Blogging, or the practice of creating a journal or log online, has become very popular. Not surprisingly, engaged couples have turned to using personal wedding blogs to share information about their engagement and wedding with family and friends around the world. Setting up a wedding blog can be easy and inexpensive (free!) and is also the perfect way to capture all of the special memories of your engagement.
Why Create a Wedding Blog?
- Share information about the wedding with family and friends around the world
- Get feedback from family and friends about different aspects of the wedding
- Create a keepsake journal of the engagement
- Collect photos of favorite wedding ideas and special moments from the engagement and ceremony.
- Share a live feed (video) of the ceremony for those who can’t attend
How to Get Started?
- Sign up with a blogging website that will allow you to create a free blog. There are a lot of options, but one of the most popular sites is Blogger.
- Sign up with a free photo-hosting site. There are sites such as Flickr that allow you to share your pictures with others and create “tags” so other people can find them quickly. There are also sites such as Shutterfly that host photos and allow guests to order copies of their favorite shots.
- Set the blog up based on the instructions on the blogging website.
- Start writing!
How to Keep Your Blog Interesting and Up-to-Date
- Tell the story of how you met your fiancé/fiancée
- List things you have in common
- Describe the proposal (this is even more fun if the bride and groom each share their side of the story)
- Create a “save-the-date” post with all of the relevant details
- Post fun things to do for out-of-towners
- Share highlights from the engagement as they happen, including the engagement party, the first dress fitting, bridesmaids luncheon, bachelor/bachelorette party, etc.
- Keep family and friends up-to-date on other things that are taking place in your lives such as buying a house or starting a new job
- Share information on your honeymoon plans
- Post a link to your registry
Caveat
Safety on the internet should always be a concern. Be aware that you are sharing information, not only with friends and family, but with anyone who stumbles onto your site. Steer clear of sharing information about where you live, your daily schedule, exact dates when you’ll be out of town, etc., and be especially thoughtful about sharing photos, names, and ages of children.
The biggest thing to remember with a wedding blog (other than safety!) is to have fun. Keep your wedding blog updated, ideally posting several times a week. This will keep your readers interested and coming back for more. In the end, you’ll have a great keepsake of your wedding planning process.
